Emily Whitsitt

Emily Whitsitt completed the iJay Practicum program across two semesters - Spring 2022 (Cohort 17) and Fall 2022 (Cohort 18) - as a member of the Events & Outreach team, before graduating from Creighton University in 2023. Her hands-on experience organizing campus events and coordinating stakeholder communication at iJay built the professional foundation she now applies in the insurance industry.

Currently, Emily serves as a Senior Group Underwriter at Mutual of Omaha, where she leverages the communication and organizational skills she developed through event planning at the Practicum to coordinate with colleagues and manage complex underwriting processes.

Through her work on the Events & Outreach team, Emily gained invaluable real-world experience in project coordination and stakeholder management. Organizing campus events taught her how to communicate effectively across different audiences, manage timelines, and ensure smooth execution of complex initiatives. These organizational and communication skills translate directly to her current role in group underwriting, where coordinating with coworkers, planning meetings, and managing multiple client relationships require the same attention to detail and interpersonal effectiveness she cultivated at iJay. The professional communication standards she learned, from email etiquette to presentation skills using PowerPoint and Canva, remain essential tools in her daily work at Mutual of Omaha.
